About the university
Mulawarman University , abbreviated as Unmul , is a state university in Samarinda , East Kalimantan , Indonesia . The university was established on September 27, 1962 , making it the oldest university in East Kalimantan. Mulawarman University is the largest university with the largest number of students in Kalimantan , with the number of students reaching over 37,000 people. The main campus is located on Mount Kelua, while other campuses are located in Jalan Pahlawan, Jalan Banggeris and Jalan Flores. The province of East Kalimantan in the 1960s still remained an area of little population and uneven distribution, even many isolated areas. From the city of Balikpapan to the city of Samarinda alone must be taken within 1 day by road and river. Many sons of East Kalimantan who continue their education must go to Banjarmasin , Makassar or cities on the island of Java . Therefore, at the wishes of the people of East Kalimantan, it is planned to establish a university in Samarinda.
