Il corso forma operatori con le conoscenze e competenze necessarie a trattare, dopo esame obiettivo del piede e utilizzando metodi incruenti, ortesici ed idromassoterapici, le callosità, le unghie ipertrofiche, deformi e incarnite, nonché il piede doloroso. In particolare, il laureato conosce le basi scientifiche e possiede la preparazione teorico-pratica necessaria per la comprensione dei fenomeni biologici ed ereditari, dei principali meccanismi di funzionamento degli organi e degli apparati, nonché degli aspetti psicologici, sociali ed ambientali; conosce i concetti fondanti della podologia e i modelli concettuali e la metodologia del processo di assistenza podologica; i principi e le norme che definiscono il campo proprio di attività e di responsabilità del podologo; i principi deontologici, giuridici e medico legali della professione. Tutti i Corsi di Laurea (triennali) di area sanitaria che afferiscono alla Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia sono a numero chiuso. Il numero degli iscrivibili è definito annualmente con apposito Decreto Interministeriale pubblicato di norma nel periodo compreso tra giugno e luglio. È previsto un test di accesso definito mediante apposito Decreto Interministeriale in tre date previste di norma nel mese di settembre e uniche a livello nazionale.
