About the university
Alassane Ouattara University is the result of one of the university centers set up in 1992 by the Ivorian authorities in order to relieve congestion at the National University of Côte d'Ivoire. It is by Decree No. 95/975 of 20 November 1995 that the university center of Bouaké becomes an autonomous university and takes the name of "University of Bouaké". In October 2002, following the Ivorian political and military crisis, Bouaké University was relocated to Abidjan, the country's economic capital. Since mid-2011, negotiations are under way for the university to return to Bouaké. It will remain closed for refurbishment work for nearly two years after the Ivorian crisis of 2010-2011. It reopened in September 2012 after being renamed the President-in-Office9. However, the university is criticized for not meeting the standards required by the newly introduced LMD system: the courses are only theoretical, and the IT infrastructure is not functional. There is no wifi connection, no teaching material. Students have to travel long distances at their own expense to have access to the Internet for their various jobs.
