About the university
The Félix-Houphouët-Boigny University, formerly known as the University of Cocody, originates from the three university centers which were affiliated to the National University of Côte d'Ivoire in 1971, the origin of which dates back to the creation of the Center d'enseignement Superior of Abidjan in 1958 and himself promoted to the rank of university by presidential decree on 9 January 1964. Before the 1990s, the establishment had a scientific production of 3 876 theses and 530 DEA. The University of Cocody was closed by decree for a part of the year, which was severely affected by the politico-military crisis and then by the 2010-2011 crisis (some students had not completed their courses in the 2007 session in 20115) 2010-20116 to carry out major work in the summer of 2011 with a view to its reopening. This work was preceded in July 2011 by the destruction of the precarious neighborhoods7 (Wassa, Blengué, Chu-village) which had taken up residence on the University's site. More than 120 billion CFA francs have been invested in campus reconstruction and remediation. It reopened on 3 September 2012 at an official ceremony
