About the university
The College has however been facing multifaceted challenges. Worthy of mentioning are those relating to the desire to move away from the position of being seen as a storehouse of accumulated knowledge to becoming a leader in the business of knowledge creation and generation of new ideas. More importantly, is the paradigm shift as enunciated in the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategies (NEEDS) which in itself is a response to global reforms in the social and economic sectors. In other words, the core elements of NEEDS which include value reorientation, poverty eradication, employment generation, entrepreneurship and the use of education to empower people are of concern to the College. These challenges however transcend beyond the foregoing to a thought about how the College will be able to use its teacher education programme to contribute to the realisation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Consequently, as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, the College launched a five-year (2008-2012) strategic rolling plan with a renewed vision and mission statement.
