About the university
In 1816, the Faculty of Fine Arts was established at the University of Warsaw. Marcello Bacciarelli, Zygmunt Vogel. After the censure of the University of Warsaw in 1831, the Russian authorities established in 1844 the School of Fine Arts, attached to the Junior Gymnasium. Her listeners took part in the patriotic manifestations of the 1860-1861 and in the January Uprising, which caused her a cassation in 1864. In 1865 reactivated as a drawing class. The Drawing Class was transformed into the City School of Decorative Arts and Painting in Warsaw in 1920. In 1904 the Warsaw School of Fine Arts was re-established. Konrad Krzyzanowski, Karol Tichy, Ferdynand Ruszczyc and Xawery Dunikowski, while the first director was Kazimierz Stabrowski. In the years 1909-1920 the school was managed by Stanislaw Lentz. In 1932 the school was transformed into the Academy of Fine Arts. After World War II (1945) the university was revived, and in 1950 merged with the Higher School of Fine Arts, continuator of the tradition of the City School of Decorative Arts and Painting. It was then called the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1957 it was renamed Academy of Fine Arts. In the years 1954-1977, the Department of Interior Architecture operated the Artistic and Research Works.
