About the university
The Higher School of Physical Education and Tourism in Bialystok (formerly Supraśl) was established in April 2001, as a result of the transformation of the existing College of Physical Education in Bialystok. Zygmunt Szelesta in a higher autonomous university. We are based on the experience gained during the several years of the Teachers College of Physical Education and the cooperation that our College has with the Józef Piłsudski Academy of Physical Education in Warsaw. We are currently one of the most dynamically developing higher education institutions in the region. In 2005 our University was accredited by the Minister of National Education to conduct a second degree studies in the field of Physical Education, which made us the only university in the north-eastern part of the country with powers in this field. In 2008, the School of Physical Education and Tourism moved its headquarters from Suprasia to Bialystok. The presence of WSWFiT in the largest academic center of the region, ie Białystok, has complemented the academic offer in the city, and the university has given it the possibility of even more dynamic development. The modern didactic building of the Higher School of Physical Education and Tourism, which was created in Bialystok, was partly co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the Integrated Regional Development Operational Program. Thanks to this the University has a gymnasium, a didactic game room, a room for music and movement exercises, a gym, physiotherapy salons, biomechanics and computer rooms. WSWFiT also has a modern library of over 9800 volumes. The School of Physical Education and Tourism in Bialystok is also a sport. Representations of the AZS Club successfully participate in the Podlasie Academic League and the Polish National Championships. Our students win medals not only at academic events at the regional and national level, but also at top-level sports events such as the European or World Championships. As the only university in the region we have performed at one of the largest academic sports events, undoubtedly the Academic European Championships. WSWFiT students have participated five times in the Old Continent Championships competing in football, basketball, volleyball and badminton. The biggest success of our athletes was the 6th place in the Academic European Basketball and Women's Basketball Championships in 2005 and the championship of the XXII and XXIII Polish Universities Championship in the type of non-public schools (42 sports) in 2002-2006.
