In established in 1947, the State Higher School of Music in Sopot, the teaching of music theory was held in the framework of the then faculty of education. The department of reference, composition and theory of music were created a year later, and in connection with this specialty worked until 1958, when he left the Academy of Music in Sopot, the leading teacher, conducting Kazimierz Wikomirsky. The range of the specialty department for today is so marked by the composition and theory of music. Temporarily within the framework of the Department of Composition and Music Theory of work: Pedagogical studies and foreign languages. In the school year 2007-2008, the symphony and opera were re-organized as a field of study. The parent of the Academy of Music-with the current artistic and pedagogical activity in the late 50's acquired a new quality - scientific activity. Legitimacy by the ruling science as equal with the artistic led to the creation of the Department of Music Theory and Composition, an outstanding composer and theoretician of the prof .. Pyotr Reitel began his work on December 12, 1957. The research directions and a number of current forms of action were developed during the team of Prof. Konrad Pakubiki. Under his leadership, he gradually crystallizes the internal division into sections, as an expression of the formation of the specialization of scientific and pedagogical cadres: Section of Harmony and Musical Forms Section Counterpoint, Music and Literature Section Points of Musicology Solfedzhio section, section Records and Musical Acoustics, Musicotherapy section.
