About the university
In 1954, he was liquidated Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Warsaw and the Faculty of Theology of the Jagiellonian University . They have been converted into Academy Theological (ATK), and removed from the UW Department Evangelical Theology was the basis for the creation of multi-denominational Christian Theological Academy of Warsaw (ChAT). In the same year the monastery Camaldolese located in Warsaw's Bielany were displaced the Marians , and the newly formed ATK was awarded abandoned monastery. The Academy of Catholic Theology was a state university, established by decision of the then Council of Ministers. Because according to canon law theological faculties should be created or approved by the Holy See, the creation of a new university was badly received by the church environment. Ks. Primate Stefan Wyszyński , the then Archbishop of Warsaw, in the years 1953-1956 was in custody. After his release, the university did not accept immediately. Only since 1960, with the approval of the Holy See, the Academy respected and thought of himself as a great chancellor of the university. Full rights ecclesiastical Academy of Catholic Theology obtained in 1989, and since then the university was both Church and State.
