About the university
The PWSZ in Konin is the only state-run university in the region, with 17 years of experience, offering 2016 graduates with 17 undergraduate and engineering majors and 2 master's degrees: English-German and German-English philology. In total, the University offers 52 specialties. Over the 17 years it has undergone many changes to provide students with a high and practical level of education. In October 2012, the State Higher Vocational School in Konin celebrated the 15th anniversary of its existence. There would be no celebration if not for Marek Naglewski, the vicar's governor, the vice-rector of the university in 2007-2011, who started the battle in Konin to start a state vocational school in 1995. It was supported by many other people whose activities resulted in the establishment of the Higher Vocational School in Konin in 1998 (the second in Poland, after Tarnów). - In the mid-1990s, the idea of establishing higher vocational schools in Poland emerged in government circles - remarks Marek Naglewski. "I was very interested, because a few years ago I had the opportunity to look at this type of university in Saint-Étienne. In France, vocational colleges have been created primarily to prepare staff to deal with the restructuring of areas whose foundations have so far been mined. We expected that also in Konin will come the time of the process of extinguishing the mining industry and will need specialists who will contribute to the development of other areas of the economy - he explains.
