About the university
The Leopoldine Academy functioned as a two-faculty college until 1811, that is, until the year of its merger with the University of Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder). The merger of these two universities gave the University of Wroclaw proper start. Since 1811 there were two departments of theology at the University of Frederic Wilhelm in Wrocław: the Faculty of Catholic Theology and the Faculty of Evangelical Theology. In this form, academic theology survived at the University of Wroclaw until 1945. In the new Polish postwar reality, despite hard efforts of the ecclesiastical authorities, failed to "launch" the Faculty of Theology. It was only re-established in 1968 by the Congregation for the Seminary of the Clergy and Universities. Up to now, the Faculty has functioned as the Pontifical Faculty of Theology. He is the heir of academic theology in the Lower Silesian Capital.
