About the university
Revived in 1918, Poland had to create naval military education from scratch. Its organization and development was dependent not only on the state and equipment of the fleet and river flotilla but also on the implementation of their change programs. The organization and development of naval forces in the country required from the beginning a constant increase in the number of officers - marine specialists. The need for them, especially for subordinates, was also due to the need to have their own national officer corps, which would not be marked by service in the armies of the partitioning states. Developed at the end of 1919 in the Department of Maritime Affairs (DSM) a 10-year maritime program, as well as the threat of Russia's eastern border, which was defended among others. The Piotone Flotilla, decided to organize in the spring of 1920 in Toruń the first Course for River Flotation Officers. On March 20, 1921, officers of Temporary Instructor Training Courses (TKI) were opened in Toruń for Polish Navy Officers (PMW). According to DSM plans, they were supposed to - and soon so - be the base for the Naval Officer School. A year later the existing courses and officers' schools were reorganized in Poland. As a result of the decision taken at that time in place of the Interim Instructor Course, the formation of an Officer School of the Navy (OSMW), based in Toruń, began on 1 October 1922. Her commanding officer was a pdr. Adam Mohuczy, current TKI commandant.
