Objectives This course aims to train young students in an area of priority concern at both national and European level, or even worldwide. The scientific and technological developments of recent years, in biology, health and health care, have create a market where engineers who have a multidisciplinary background in mathematics, computing, physics, chemistry, biotechnology, and simultaneously in medicine and engineering may be able to intervene by applying knowledge of engineering analysis and resolution of various critical situations in medicine and clinical practice with concrete applications in research, diagnosis and therapy of medical sciences. This is the central objective of Biomedical Engineering (BE) and intends to develop in students the capacity for rigorous analysis, along with a critical spirit for flexible and creative research and for innovate. It aims to be a factor of progress in various sectors of activity namely Engineering, Medicine and Health. They will develop new materials, medical devices, implants, diagnostic equipment or bioinformatics solutions, all crucial to the prevention, diagnosis and rehabilitation of patients. The promotion of the necessary academic training for scientific research in the area of BE is also pretended. This is accomplished by providing the students with a solid knowledge that combines fundamental engineering, exact sciences and medicine that will enable them to follow the evolution of knowledge and technology in the fields of Medicine and Health, and to investigate new methods and new techniques in multiple aspects of biomedical sciences.
