Objectives This course of study mainly aims at providing a basic training in electronic engineering, as well as in the areas of Mathematics, Physics and Computation, that are essential to professional practice based in this area of knowledge as well as the continuation of training in a course of 2nd cycle in this area of engineering sciences. Thus, the conclusion of this course of study should enable the student to continue to attend a 2nd cycle (Masters) in Electronical Engineering, enter the workforce or advance in its career. The aim is not to provide such training only to students who have completed secondary education in Portugal but also to students coming from Portuguese speaking countries and others who already have a career but who wish to complement their studies. Other secondary objective of the course is to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in this area in Portugal and in all Portuguese speaking countries. Knowledge, abilities and skills to be acquired Major in Civil Engineering As core competencies of the subjects designated as Majors in Civil Engineering (144 ECTS), we made an allowance for a broad-ranging training in the field of Civil Engineering, that will allow for a solid and consistent and uniform view of its fundamental principles, as well as the characteristics of the materials and technologies used, including the practical application of knowledge to solve problems, in addition to the ability to collaborate in management of project in the generic field of Civil Engineering. Minor in Civil Engineering The Minor in Civil Engineering (36 ECTS) aims to enable students who Majored in other scientific areas to acquire the basic skills and capabilities in this area and for this reason, students whose Major is Civil Engineering may choose their Minor from other scientific subjects. These students are, however, advised to select optional curricular units within the field of Civil Engineering listed in the framework of the subjects. Career Bearing in mind the competencies above mentioned, the vocational opportunities are diverse and include the traditional areas of Construction, with a direct intervention in design, coordination, supervision and management, in addition to the fundamental presence in multidisciplinary work teams. The education received will endow the future graduate or Masters students with a comprehensive and specialized training, thus the knowledge obtained can be put into practice in project offices, construction companies and in State and local authority bodies and/or institutions, private national or international entities, specifically in the countries of the European Community and Lusophone countries. Entrance Conditions Candidates who meet the requirements defined in the International Student Statute can apply.
