Objectives The degree course in Biochemistry at the Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa has as its general objective the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to the chemistry of biomolecules and biological processes. This cycle of studies provides solid foundations (theoretical and practical) for entry into a professional career in Biochemistry or related areas. The main objectives are: - To teach basic concepts in the area of life sciences; - To provide knowledge in organic, analytical, inorganic and chemical-physical chemistry relevant to the understanding of biological systems; -Transmitting practical and specialized knowledge, using current scientific equipment, in medical biochemistry and biochemical and genetic engineering; - Develop research skills in students; - Provide students with basic concepts in entrepreneurship, for insertion into the national and international labor market. This training can be complemented with a second cycle in various areas of expertise. Knowledge, skills and competences to be acquired The Degree in Biochemistry of the Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa provides the chemical, physical and mathematical tools necessary to understand mechanisms and establish models that explain diseases, environmental problems, forensics, nutrition and pharmacology, of practical use for the Graduate. The graduate will acquire in-depth skills on the structure and functioning of life molecules and metabolic processes, enabling him to act as a qualified professional, either independently or integrated into multidisciplinary teams. In addition, the knowledge of entrepreneurship will trigger his ability to develop practical applications useful to society in which he uses the concepts and skills acquired. Career The degree course in Biochemistry at the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias prepares students to follow the most diversified careers: teaching and/or research in public or private institutions of Portuguese or foreign higher education, researchers or technicians in the pharmaceutical, biomedical or biotechnological industries (including the vast industrial area of agri-food), or in service companies (clinical analysis, biotechnology, biomedicine), creation or participation in the creation with partners of their own company (startup) thanks to training in self-employment. The skills developed during the course (team work, project management, scientific writing, data analysis,...) also enable students to apply for jobs outside the area of biochemistry but where these skills will be valued. Entrance Conditions Candidates who meet the requirements defined in the International Student Statute can apply.
