About the university
The University of Minho (UM) was founded in Braga in 1973 and joined the so-called "New Universities" group that changed the panorama of higher education in Portugal. He began his academic activities in 1975/76. The university is governed by a rectory, composed of a rector and a general council, and five internal units that group by intervention areas the various internal entities. The government of the University is exercised by the following bodies: general council, rector and board of management. These bodies are responsible for directing the University in its scientific, pedagogical, cultural and interaction activities with society, as well as ensuring the planning and administrative and financial management of the Institution. The University has the following consultation bodies: academic senate, cultural council and disciplinary council. It is incumbent upon these bodies to advise the general council and the rector in the performance of their duties and issue opinions under these statutes.
