About the university
The School of the Military Health Service (ESSM) was created in 02AGO1979 by decree-law 266/79, being placed under the dependence of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (CEMGFA), and classified as a technical- military. The teaching in this school essentially covers three distinct areas, dependent on a Teaching Directorate: nursing, health technology courses and military health courses In 1993 the ESSM moved to the dependency of the Army Chief of Staff, being hierarchically dependent on its Command of Instruction. It has remained as a support body for more than one branch, whose primary mission is to ensure training in the health area, with human resources provided by the Ramos (Decree-Law no. 50/93 of 26FEV).In JUN2004/2005 a protocol was established with the Higher School of Health Technologies of Lisbon, for undergraduate courses in health technologies and with the Calouste Gulbenkian School of Nursing for undergraduate degrees in nursing.
