About the university
The Higher School of Nursing Dr. José Timóteo Montalvão Machado (ESEDJTMM), located in the Municipality of Chaves is a recognized institution of public interest by Decree-Law no. 99/96 of July 19, and is part of Private and Cooperative Higher Education, Regulated by Decree-Law no. 16/94 of 22 January. It was created in 1993 by the Promoting Association of Teaching Nursing in Chaves (APEEC), a non-profit institution constituted by the Municipal Councils of Alto Tâmega and Barroso and by the respective Santas Casas da Misericórdia. For the pursuit of its purposes, the School was endowed by APEEC with its own Statutes. Having reviewed it pursuant to no. 1 of article 172 of Law no. 62/2007, of 10 September, submitted for ministerial approval, homologated and published in the II series of Diário da República no. 196 - de 09 Of October 2009. Its creation starts from the need to create synergies indispensable to the development of teaching and nursing profession and to respond in the region to the growth of the student population that wanted to enter Higher Education.
