TecnoCampus Mataró-Maresme

The origins of TecnoCampus date back to 1982, with the creation of the Polytechnic University College of Mataró from the well-established Miquel Biada Municipal Vocational Training Institute. This university engineering centre was the result of the efforts of the Mataró City Council and the textile industry itself, at a time when Mataró was an area heavily focused on industrial activity, being one of the country’s most dynamic cities in terms of business creation. In 1994, an important step forward was taken with the creation of the Maresme University College (EUM) by the County Council, with the affiliation of the Pompeu Fabra University. In 1991, the Board of Directors at the Polytechnic came to the conclusion that the centre’s future had to go hand in hand with the development of new campus facilities and a model underpinned by a strong commitment to extremely close ties to the company sector. With this in mind, the Mataró City Council, under the College’s technical supervision, developed the Information Society Master Plan, which set out the TecnoCampus concept that went on to become a reality in 2010 in the city’s new development area, El Rengle, right on the seafront.
