About the university
After more than 30 years of educating childbirth professionals, Seattle Midwifery School merged with Bastyr University in 2009. Bastyr University now offers the nation’s first accredited, direct-entry Master of Science in Midwifery and delivers innovative training in other childbirth professions. Bastyr University's accredited Master of Science in Midwifery degree program prepares students in all aspects of midwifery care, based on the competencies established by the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA). Students may enter this program without midwifery or nursing experience or an undergraduate degree. Upon completion, they earn either a Master of Science in Midwifery or a combined Bachelor/Master of Science in Midwifery and are qualified to become state licensed and nationally certified professional midwives (CPM).
