About the university
Boricua College is the first private four-year bilingual institution of higher education learning on the United States mainland developed by Puerto Ricans and dedicated to educating Latinos. It is the only private minority institution granted an absolute charter in New York State. The College is located in New York City and maintains three campuses: the Manhattan Campus situated in the historic Audubon Terrace of Manhattan's Upper West Side and a second cluster of facilities located in the Williamsburg and Greenpoint sections (Brooklyn Campus), as well as our recently opened (September 2010), state-of-the-art Bronx Campus in the Melrose section of the South Bronx. Boricua College opened its doors in 1974 to 26 students, and presently enrolls 1,200 students in liberal arts and other academic programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degreees. The majority of students are Puerto Rican or Latin American and 18% are of other ethnic groups. The College is committed to strengthening Latino culture through a bilingual, bicultural approach to learning, and provides students the opportunity to design highly individualized programs to fulfill intellectual and career goals. Many of the College's learning activities are also focused on understanding and finding solutions to problems and concerns facing Latinos and other Americans to prepare students for effective leadership in their communities.
