About the university
DCAD's mission is to educate talented and dedicated students to become art makers, idea generators, problem solvers, and visual communicators who can redefine the way we perceive and experience the world around us. It also serves as a visible stakeholder, cultural anchor, and catalyst for the revitalization of downtown Wilmington. The Delaware College of Art and Design is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). In 1996, Pratt Institute and the Corcoran College of Art and Design came together in an innovative partnership that formed the bedrock of Delaware College of Art and Design, in response to an invitation by the Wilmington community to establish Delaware's only art and design school. Pratt Institute in New York City and the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. are two of America’s oldest and most distinguished visual arts colleges, and, through this partnership, helped create the foundation for the Delaware College of Art and Design. Now operating as an independent institution, an education at DCAD provides one of the richest opportunities available in American art and design education today.
