About the university
Cornell College is a private liberal arts college in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Originally called the Iowa Conference Seminary, the school was founded in 1853 by Reverend Samuel M. Fellows. Four years later, in 1857, the name was changed to Cornell College, in honor of iron tycoon William Wesley Cornell, who was a distant relative of Ezra Cornell (founder of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa, is a private, undergraduate liberal arts college that offers students an exciting variety of learning opportunities in the classroom, on campus and around the world. Students focus intensely on one class for three and a half weeks, then move on to a new subject through Cornell’s One Course at a Time academic structure. You can spend a month creating a stage production, conducting scientific research or learning a new language. Students may also take off-campus and international studies for the same duration. There’s no limit to what you can do with your education at Cornell.
