About the university
The youngest community college in Illinois, Heartland Community College was founded in 1990. The public, two-year open admissions college is an affordable resource for higher education, focusing on student success. Initially operating from leased space in Bloomington, the College's steady growth in services, programs and enrollment led to the establishment of a permanent main campus in Normal in 2000. For its first 19 years, the College was led by founding president, Dr. Jonathan M. Astroth. Upon his retirement in August 2010, Dr. Allen Goben assumed the role as the College’s second president.
