Southern Crescent Technical College (Flint River Technical College)

Southern Crescent Technical College is a public, accredited two-year postsecondary college with two main campuses located in Griffin, Georgia and Thomaston, Georgia. There are also centers located in Jackson, Monticello and Butler. Southern Crescent offers programs of study in the areas of business, health, industrial, and public service with choices of associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates of credit. It serves Butts, Fayette, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, Talbot, Taylor, and Upson counties. The college originated from the merger of Griffin Technical College and Flint River Technical College. The merger of these technical schools was approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges on Dec. 7th 2010.Southern Crescent Technical College formed in July 2010 when Flint River Technical College and Griffin Technical College merged. It serves the workforce and community needs of Butts, Fayette, Henry, Jasper, Lamar, Pike, Spalding, Taylor, and Upson counties through its campuses in Griffin (Griffin Campus) and Thomaston (Flint River Campus) as well as its centers in Jasper, Taylor, Butts, and Henry County. After the merger, the first expansion project was completed with the opening of the 32,000 square foot Industrial Training Facility – Building E on the Flint River Campus on June 16, 2011. Shortly after this project was complete, the groundbreaking for the three-story, 80,000-square-foot Medical Technology Building on the Griffin Campus was held on July 28, 2011, with the ribbon cutting on November 29, 2012.
