About the university
Southwestern University is an independent, four-year, undergraduate national liberal arts college, located on a beautiful 700-acre campus just north of Austin, Texas. The first institution of higher learning in the state, Southwestern was founded by Methodist missionaries and chartered by the Republic of Texas in 1840. Today, the University is recognized by college guidebooks and ranking services for value, quality of education and contributions to the public good, and has been named one of the 353 most environmentally responsible colleges. EDUCATION SHOULD TO MORE THAN INFORM. IT SHOULD TRANSFORM. In a rapidly changing world, the ability to adapt is critical. With an education grounded in the liberal arts, Southwestern students bring the skills that modern employers value most in graduates: the ability to think critically, communicate clearly and solve complex problems. SMALL IS HUGE. Forget the 300-seat classrooms. Here at Southwestern, you’ll study in small classes averaging just 15 students. In this more intimate, more active learning environment, you’ll engage, you’ll discuss, you’ll debate, you’ll connect – and, as a result, you’ll thrive.
