The University School of Music is a service of the University of the Republic (link is external) whose objectives are research, promotion of creation, teaching and extension in the field of music. The present University School of Music has its origins in the National Conservatory of Music, founded in 1953 and dependent of the then Ministry of Public Instruction and Social Prevision.
