Kiev Scientific Research Institute of Neurosurgery was established in 1950 on the basis of the Kiev Psychoneurological Institute. The main activities of the Institute are the scientific development and provision of a modern level of diagnostics and treatment of diseases and injuries of the central and peripheral nervous system, namely pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of injuries of the central and peripheral nervous system and their consequences; Surgical and combined treatment of brain tumors, the study of their molecular genetic features; Surgical treatment of lesions of the spine, spinal cord and its roots; Treatment of indomitable pain syndromes; Functional and reconstructive neurosurgery; Neurosurgery of children; Surgical treatment of cerebral vascular pathology; Experimental and clinical problems of treatment of severe forms of epilepsy, parkinsonism; Study of the mechanisms and effectiveness of the action of stem cells; Neuroimmunology; Radioeurosurgery. The structure of the Institute includes research units: clinical, diagnostic and laboratory-experimental. Clinical base of the Institute consists of 15 specialized departments for 361 beds. Annually about 5-7 thousand operations are carried out. Every year more than 30,000 patients receive specialized counseling in the polyclinic department.
