About the university
The institution that would later become today’s WU was founded over 100 years ago on October 1, 1898. The Imperial Export Academy, as it was then called, was located in the Festetics Palace and was what today would probably be described as a university of applied sciences specializing in export and international trade. The goal of the Imperial Export Academy was to provide a comprehensive education to qualify its students for international business activities. The academic program was divided into a one-year preparatory course and a two-year curriculum of core subjects, which haven’t actually changed all that much since then: foreign languages, economics, business administration, economic geography, public law, private law, and goods and commodity studies.
