About the university
The consent for the establishment of a polytechnic in Brunei Darussalam was given by His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his Decree during the National Teachers’ Day Celebration on 18 October 2008. The intention for the establishment of Politeknik Brunei was for the institution to take over the role of offering the ‘Higher National Diploma (HND)’ level technical programmes from Institut Teknologi Brunei (now known as Universiti Teknologi Brunei) after its official upgrade to a ‘University’ status. In January 2012, Politeknik Brunei began operation at its modest temporary campus at Jalan Ong Sum Ping, Bandar Seri Begawan, as the first polytechnic in Brunei Darussalam by offering a total of 9 Advanced Diploma programmes with a total of 401 students being enrolled as its inaugural intake. 5 years later, the institution now has a total of 1550 students enrolled into its 21 programmes which are currently being conducted at 3 separate venues including the campus at Ong Sum Ping.
