Nagananda International Institute for Buddhist Studies

The Buddhist centers of learning in ancient India and Sri Lanka such as Nālanda and Mahāvihāra have rendered a great service not only to preserve Buddhism but also to create a peaceful society in almost all Asian countries over the past two thousand five hundred years. This great service has been carried out by a large number of centers of learning in Asian countries. Due to various social, political, economic and cultural conditions the status of Buddhist education has become a part of modern system of education which can be introduced as an intellectual enterprise. Millions of papers, books, translations and research works are published and remain in the libraries of the universities. It seems that there is no any particular method followed in order to put into practice this vast knowledge for the sake of the development of the country, individual or society. The traditional beliefs, customs, rites and ceremonies are conducted without reference to their results and the Buddhist teachings. Therefore, time has come to revive the Buddhist tradition of education in order to create scholars with exemplary characters who can provide proper leadership to make a peaceful, intelligent and satisfied society in a global context. According to modern researches a large number of people in almost all countries suffer from mental problems. So we have organized the Nāgānanda International Institute of Buddhist Studies to lead a prominent role in providing an excellent contribution for the mental, social and spiritual development of the society.
