Nanjing Vocational Institute of Industry Technology

Nanjing Vocation Institute of Industry Technology (hereinafter referred to as “NIIT”) was founded in 1918, the predecessor of which is Chung Hua Vocational School founded in Shanghai by Mr. Huang Yanpei, a famous modern Chinese educator. It is the first “vocational” school so named in Chinese history of modern education. In 1954 the school’s name was changed to Shanghai Mechanical School. In 1960, the overall school was moved to Nanjing and named Nanjing Electrical and Mechanical School.. In 1999, it was upgraded to a higher vocational institute named Nanjing Vocation Institute of Industry Technology. Adjacent to the famous Nanjing Zhongshan Scenic Area, NIIT has three campuses named Xianlin, Zhongshan, and Tiantang respectively. Xianlin campus is famous for its beautiful scenery where egrets often perch. The Institute covers an area of 1360 mu, with a construction area of more than 400,000 square meters. It has 9 colleges, 3 departments and 1 center. The 9 colleges are respectively named College of Mechanical Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering, College of Aeronautical Engineering, College of Traffic Engineering, College of Computer and Software, College of Business and Trade, College of Economics and Management, College of Art Design, and InternationalEducationCollege. The 3 departments are the Department of Public Foundational Courses, the Department of Social Sciences, and the Department of Physical Education. In addition, the one center is called Engineering Training Center. The institute has more than 14,000 full-time students, among whom more than 13000 are junior college students, nearly 1000 are undergraduates, and approximately 100 are overseas students. The staff number is over 800. It boasts of 1 national excellent teaching team, 7 excellent teaching teams of Jiangsu Province, 55 famous teachers of national level and Jiangsu Province, advanced professionals and excellent educators. Adhering to the school motto of “Dedication and Cooperation” and the education philosophy of “Hand and Mind”, the education level and comprehensive strength of NIIT has been significantly improved. It attaches great importance to improving the quality of talent cultivation, and the achievements of talents with technical skills of high quality are eye-catching. Its admission flourishes, and the employment of the graduates is unhindered, with the college entrance examination admission score among the highest in the province for 8 consecutive years and an employment rate over 99%. From 2012 to 2016, 17 first prizes have been won in the national vocational skills contest; and a total number of 97 first prizes have been won in the National “Invention Cup” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Contest for Higher Vocational Colleges for 5 years in a row, exceeding a quarter of the total number of national first prizes. For two consecutive terms of the “Challenge Cup” in the final national competition on innovation and entrepreneurship, NIIT was selected for the next round of competition and won 1 outstanding winner special award, 2 first prizes, and 1 second prize and third prize respectively. In addition, for two consecutive sessions in the “Internet Plus” competition of university students’ innovation in Jiangsu Province, 3 first prizes, 5 second prizes and 1 third prize were awarded to the institute, 3 projects of which were selected for the national competition and granted 3 bronze prizes. During the recent five years, up to 1300 patents have been applied for by the teachers and students. NIIT has cultivated a large number of model students touching the heart of Jiangsu education such as Wang Yi, who is outstanding in virtues; Zhai Tianlin, who is inheritor of non-material cultural heritage; Yun Shuxian, who is a genius in scientific innovation; Liu Siyang, who is the first person who captured the image of Qinling rain frog; Wangchen Zhengzhi and Liu An, pioneers in business innovation who were received by the national leaders Jia Qinlin and Liu Yandong.
