The doctorate intends to train in research, with an interdisciplinary approach, and taking into account strategic problems in the thematic field of sustainable regions. Specifically, it seeks to produce knowledge about basic questions for Colombian society in today's world, knowledge that is valid and significant in itself, but which is articulated, as is the interest of this program, with the search for solutions and with the intervention on systemic processes between the natural environment, the territory and its interaction with society. The doctorate interconnects two thematic fields: that of regional studies, which refer us to nature, the population and their socio-economic and political relationship with the territory; and that of sustainability, which introduces the goal of making a better world possible for this and future generations, also taking into account the complex and systemic interaction between nature, the economy, society, governance, and the challenges for a sustainable and desirable global development.
