About the university
In 1876, the municipal council of Roubaix, wishing to satisfy the desire of people to have a special education taking into account the needs of a large industrial city (Rube long time was the capital of textiles), adopts the creation of a central point, the institution is called upon to combine state courses, scientific schools (weaving, drawing.), Their collections, an art and industrial museum and a library that were previously scattered throughout the city. Meanwhile, the government wanted to create a textile school to meet the needs of the industry. The state decided to help the city of Roubaix; The school would be a national institution. NKSI (National School of Darts Industrialists) was formally established by the law of July 5, 1881 and an agreement was signed in 1882 between the state and Roubaix. The school was commissioned by the architect Dutert, the school inspector of drawing for the northern region, who supported this project for several years. NKSI was renamed ENSAIT in 1921.
