Grenoble Alpes University

The Université Grenoble Alpes was created on 1 January 2016 by merging three former universities: the Université Joseph Fourier, the Université Pierre Mendès-France and the Université Stendhal. It already has the fifth largest number of students for a university in France. The Université Grenoble Alpes brings together 24 faculties, institutes and schools, 80 laboratories, 5,500 staff and 45,000 students. Thanks to the coordination of all our resources, today we are able to launch a process to construct a strong and ambitious university. Our research, grouped into six interdisciplinary centres, is adapted to be on the cutting edge of innovation. The courses offered, divided into four domains, cover all disciplinary fields. The growing interdependence between countries and between the different parts of each society poses a significant challenge to today's universities. They must be at the heart of this change. By reinforcing the link between education and research on the one hand, and by boosting interactions between education and research and the socio-economic and cultural world on the other hand, the Université Grenoble Alpes supports openness, interdisciplinarity and innovation. These are essential ingredients for a range of high-quality courses and leading scientific research. Firmly grounded in its territory, the Université Grenoble Alpes also hopes to increase its international influence and attractiveness day by day. In keeping with the site project carried out with partners from the Communauté Grenoble Alpes, the university will be a key player in the social, economic and cultural development of its territory both nationally and internationally. The new institution aims to respond to all the challenges the world poses universities today and in the future. This exciting and collective challenge must be taken up with ingenuity, creativity and the desire to build the future.
