About the university
Suzanne Berçot, a painter and illustrator of fashion, opened the Cours Berçot in 1954 on the advice of her collaborators in the Jardin des Modes. The use of drawing is a rigorous discipline that can not be ignored in the great era of haute couture, both for conceiving and for representing clothing. After several years of close collaboration, Madame Berçot entrusted the management in 1971 to Marie Rucki, a former student active in the fashion world, who renamed the Studio Berçot. The decline of haute couture and the rise of ready-to-wear during the 1970s developed a large number of professional activities around fashion design. Marie Rucki, sensitive to the ever-changing trends, organized pedagogy around the expansion of fashion design. The Studio Berçot became an invaluable source of talent dedicated to the creators of the 1980s, to artistic directors located in large luxury houses of the 1990s, and to the market of fashion accessories in the 2000s when large-scale distribution internationalized the medium.
