About the university
The Strasbourg Higher School of Biotechnology (ESBS) was founded in 1982 by Professors Pyrr Chembon and Jean-Pierre Ebel. This becomes trilateral in 1988, thanks to the impulse professors Werner Arber (Basel University) and Pierre Chembon. Its implementation benefited from the decisive participation of Christoph Beck and Ernst Wagner professors from the University of Freiburg and Werner Stahl of the University of Karlsruhe. The work of Professor Jean-François Lefevre, the director of ESBS at that time, is of paramount importance and the implementation of the project was actively supported by Professor Gilbert Laustriat, then President of the University Louis Pasteur (ULP) Strasbourg, The objective of ESBS is the formation over three years of competent engineers in various fields of modern biotechnology, capable of adaptation and integration in health and environmental research, R & D and production.
