The university was founded on 1 November 2009 and started its apprenticeship after a year of preparation for the winter semester 2010/11 (beginning of the academic year) with a ceremony on 20 September with 200 students. The educational institution is the first state university for health care in Germany. It offers basic courses in the fields of occupational therapy, midwifery (male graduates, post-doctoral students), speech therapy, nursing, physiotherapy and the study program "Health and Diversity" and the accompanying Bachelor's course "Health and Social Space". Since the WS 2015/16, the first master's course "Evidence-based Health Care" has been completed. In the course of care, studies can focus on the areas of care for the elderly , Health and nursing care as well as health and child care . In seven or eight semesters of basic study , the students receive their state qualifications at the same time. To this end, they receive internships and internships with a practical training institution. Practical exercises such as nursing training are also included in university teaching. Apart from the evidence of formal qualifications for Fachhochschulen, a specific four-week pre-study course is to be demonstrated. Since the summer of 2015, the university has been located at its new location on the NRW health care camp . The new seminar and practice rooms have capacities for 1300 students and are equipped with modern medical equipment. An event center complements the university rooms and offers space for internal and external events.
