About the university
Die Hochschule für Gesundheit (hsg) in Bochum ist eine Fachhochschule (international: University of Applied Sciences) des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen. Sie wurde am 1. November 2009 gegründet und ist die erste staatliche Hochschule in Deutschland, die ausschließlich für Gesundheitsberufe ausbildet. Außerdem wird das Studium an der hsg von den Bachelor-Studierenden des Departments für Angewandte Gesundheitswissenschaften mit dem akademischen Abschluss „Bachelor of Science“ und der staatlichen Prüfung nach den einschlägigen Berufsgesetzen abgeschlossen. Diese doppelte Qualifikation ist in Deutschland an einer staatlichen Hochschule etwas ganz Besonderes. Angesichts der Diskussion zur Verwissenschaftlichung der nicht-medizinischen Gesundheitsberufe werden in Deutschland vermehrt Gesundheits- und Pflegestudiengänge an den Hochschulen des Landes eingerichtet. Diese sind aber meist Aufbau- oder Spezialisierungsstudien. Bekanntestes Beispiel ist der Master of Public Health. Die Hochschule für Gesundheit bietet dagegen grundständige Studien an.
