About the university
Bombay Teachers’ Training College, a premier college of education, is located in South Mumbai. The college was established in April 1969 as a grant-in aid, linguistic (Sindhi) minority institution by the Hyderabad (Sindh) National Collegiate Board. It is an English medium, co-educational institute, affiliated to the University of Mumbai. It was the vision of the founders of the H.(S.)N.C. Board, ‘Vidyasagar’ late Principal K.M. Kundnani of K.C. College and a legal luminary Barrister Hotchand G. Advani who realised the need and importance of teacher education. Both these eminent personalities played a pioneering role in the field of higher education in Mumbai. Beginning with conventional degree courses, the H.(S.)N.C. Board continued to set up institutions of specialized learning. Today, the Board manages a chain of professional, vocational and job oriented courses in various disciplines, and is one of the largest educational corpus in Mumbai & Thane District.Our founder Principal Dr. N. R. Parasnis, initiated the work of college in four rooms of the the K. C. College building at Churchgate in April 1969 and later in Cuffe Parade, Colaba in 1971 . Dr. B.P. Lulla who served as Principal from 1973 to 1990, has played a significant role in shaping the personality and destiny of this institution. The college shifted to its current premises at Apollo Bunder in May 1991. Dr. K.T. Bhatia and Dr. M.M. Lulla took the college to even greater heights. Since 2004 the present Principal Dr. Mintu Sinha has provided strong leadership and firmly established it as an institution of international repute. During her tenure, the college has been accredited thrice with an ‘A’ grade in 2004, 2011 and recently in December 2016.
