Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts and Science College for Women

Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Devasthanam and Charities, founded in 1720 by the Arya Vysya Community, render service to the society. They have four schools, two each for girls and boys in Chennai. They have two hostels one for students from Std VII onwards, providing free food and accommodation and the other for two hundred students taking up professional courses. This organization has also undertaken the feeding of 100 School Boys, poor and infirm, throughout the year. The Charities have also two Kalyana Mandapams, a cremation ground and ceremonial garden. The Management Committee of the Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Devasthanam & Charities have founded the Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts & Science College for Women to promote women's education in Chennai. Initially the college functioned in the first floor of K.T.C.T. Girl's Higher Secondary School at No:5 Narayana Mudali Street, Chennai-79. The College is functioning in its own premises at No:1 Audiappa Street,Chennai-1 from the academic year 2000-2001. This area early known as Kotwal Chavadi is owned by the S.K.P.D. & Charities. The Management Committee has constructed the necessary Classrooms, library, laboratory and provided other infrastructure for the courses offered to the students. The aim and objective of the Charities is to give quality education, excellent coaching in curricular, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities to girl's, so as to infuse self-confidence and courage in the minds of young girl's who are the future makers of our country. To free women from bondage, education could be used as a tool. Empowerment can only be a corollary to education. The SKILLS offered to young girls in this institution are far from the conventional once. They not only give women the label of being educated, but also equipped then to compete in the modern job oriented competitive world and prepare them to use their time productively. The founders of this college have deep faith in Sanathana Dharma and therefore give emphasis to rich Indian tradition for the dual development of the personality of young Indian women, imparting values of compassion, tolerance, understanding, care, service and love. It is also to be well understood that modern technology has reduced the whole world to a global village in which success belongs to the fittest and the smartest. The College aims at producing talented young women in all spheres. The College has been producing good results with University Ranks every year right from its inception. This academic year, an appreciable overall percentage of 89.82% was achieved by the institution and 35 students secured top 10 University Ranks in various subjects
