he University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya was originally comprised of several existing higher education institutions. These institutions are the Faculty of Religious Studies Department of Da'wah (FIAD) which was established since 15 September 1964, Faculty Tarbiyah Surabaya was established in 1975, IKIP Muhammadiyah Surabaya was established in 1980, Faculty of Syari'ah Surabaya was established in 1982, and the Institute of Technology Muhammadiyah Surabaya Established in 1983. Based on SK. Minister of Education and Culture of Indonesia. No. 1, 141/0/1984, IKIP Muhammadiyah Surabaya, Muhammadiyah Institute of Technology Surabaya, and University of Muhammadiyah Gresik merged into one with the name "UNIVERSITY MUHAMMADIYAH SURABAYA" hereinafter abbreviated as UMSurabaya. All departments in the three institutions are based on SK. Mendikbut RI No. : Initially the University of Muhammadiyah Surabaya consists of three faculties, namely Faculty of Teacher Training and Education as the incarnation of IKIP Muhammadiyah Surabaya, Faculty of Engineering as the incarnation of the Institute of Technology Muhammadiyah Surabaya, and Faculty of Economics as the incarnation of the Faculty of Economics, University of Muhammadiyah Gresik. In 1985, based on the Decree of Regional Leadership of Muhammadiyah East Java No. : Kep / 003-V / 1985, Faculty of Da'wah (FIAD), Faculty of Tarbiyah and Faculty of Shari'ah bergesuk to UMSurabaya, and all three are incorporated in the Faculty of Islam (FAI)
