About the university
The establishment of kurdistan board for medical specialties came after many years of sufferings which faced Kurdistan Region with shortage in medical specialists in the National Health Service. After uprising of 1991, there was no hope or path for training in all medical specialties due to United Nation sanction and Iraq Kurdistan Region. It was impossible to depend on scholarships outside the country as it was very expensive and not the ideal solution for the problems which lead the authorities in Kurdistan to think about an alternative utilizing national potentials and expertise inside and outside. Higher Education Conference was held in 2001 in Erbil to unify the regulations and rules of Kurdistan Universities (Salahaddin, Erbil and Duhok).
