About the university
It was in 1892 that the Chartres St. Paul monastery was formed in Sendai. In 1893 the private Sendai Girls' School was founded. In 1948 the school name was changed to Sendai Shirayuri Gakuen and it became an educational institution with young, small, medium and high. In response to growing demand for higher education, Sendai Shirayuri Junior College in 1966 was established as a college of home economics department. In 1987 the English Department was expanded in response to the internationalizing society. In 1996, Sendai Shirayuri Women's University was established with the College of Humanities, with human development department and department of human life in the Department of Human Studies. In 2002, the college was integrated into the university after finishing its role, and became the department of human department, department of human development, comprehensive welfare department, health nutrition department, international liberal arts department within human department. Furthermore, in 2013, Sendai Shirayuri Women's University, now Sendai, has been completed to Department of Human Development, Department of Psychological Welfare, Department of Health and Nutrition, Department of Global Studies.
