About the university
Medical University of Astana is a higher educational medical institution in the city of Astana, founded on the order of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan on October 26, 1964. Initially, the university was called the Tselinograd State Medical Institute (TSMI), in 2009 it was renamed the Medical University of Astana and became the first joint-stock company among medical universities in Kazakhstan. The resolution on the opening of the Institute was adopted on October 26, 1964 by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The organizer and coordinator of the future institute was the candidate of medical sciences, AR Rakhishev. Beginning in October 1964, teachers from Almaty, among them Stanislav Dmitrievich Poletaev and PA Pak, and Ph.D., Head of the Department of Biology RN Gagarin, came to teach at the Central Medical Institute. By November 5, the Institute had 15 teachers and organized the departments of biology, Latin, normal anatomy, foreign languages and a little later the Department of Chemistry and Physics. Classes at the institute began on December 12, 1964.
