The Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico ( ITAM ) is an institution of higher education of the private initiative , non-profit or religious or political affiliation, founded in 1946 by Raul Baillères . It carries out teaching and research tasks - focused on administration, politics and various engineering - with the mission of "contributing to the integral formation of the person and to the development of a freer, fairer and more prosperous society." Its campus is located in Mexico City , and is divided into two venues: Río Hondo (for bachelor's degrees and engineering) and Santa Teresa (for postgraduate and graduate), both under the same administrative regime. ITAM graduates (who are popularly known as Itatamis ) have come to occupy the highest positions of government: federal secretaries, senators, deputies and ambassadors.
