In the 21st century, tourism is the most rapidly growing sector of the economy. The number of employees is growing and new types of tourism are created, which search for specialists. The aim of the degree programme of Tourism is to educate experts in tourism services. Therefore, the educational content includes elements of management, marketing, geography, cultural and natural heritage, environmental protection, law, etc. Teaching is interdisciplinary, combining many fields related to tourism activities. The graduates will have competences and knowledge in the field of tour guiding, working in a travel agency, hotel and gastronomy, organizing large tourism events, as well as working in local government units. Due to the acquired additional skills in operating ICT programmes and GIS techniques, as well as knowledge of finding oneself on the job market, the students will gain a competitive advantage over graduates of other degree programmes. Planned field classes and internships will provide an opportunity to acquire professional experience already during the studies. The major of Tourism Management is to acquaint students with the geography of tourism, the basics of law in tourism, elements of management and marketing, entrepreneurship, the ability to create a tourism strategy, marketing and entrepreneurship in the field of tourism economy. The students learn methods of valorisation of the geographic environment for the purposes of tourism, assessment of the potential of tourism regions and tourism attractions, and typologisation of types and forms of tourism. They also acquire competence in tourism services. They are familiarized with new trends and directions in tourism traffic. They know how to prepare valorisation maps in GIS programmes and are familiar with basic reservation systems. They can prepare customer service strategies, evaluate consumer behaviour and conduct business negotiations. They know and use the potential of cultural heritage and tourism policy to create a comprehensive tourism product. They know the economic basis of tourism and methods for evaluating the impact of tourism on the environment. They can apply the principles of sustainable development in the tourism industry. The students will acquire complete knowledge necessary to manage tourism traffic both in Poland and abroad. They are able to adapt their activities to the highly diversifying and developing tourism industry. Due to the location of the University in a highly industrialised area, special emphasis will be placed on the management of post-industrial resources in tourism. The students will gain knowledge necessary to create tourism economy at the local, regional and national levels, with particular emphasis on sustainable development.
