About the university
The Porto Nursing School (ESEP) is a non-integrated polytechnic higher education institution, dedicated to pre and post-graduate nursing education. In operation since January 1, 2007, it emerged from the merger of three higher education public nursing institutions in Porto: the Nursing High Schools of D. Ana Guedes, Porto City and São João. The remote origin of ESEP in the service of nursing education dates back to June 15, 1896, when the Nursing Course of the General Hospital of Santo António, one of the first nursing schools in the country, was created. This is the official ESEP day. Accompanying the technical and charitable evolution of the mid-twentieth century, in 1954 the first public school of nursing was created in Porto, and more recently in 1983, a new school emerges, now dedicated to the specialized training of nurses. From this triple past was born the School of Nursing of Porto, taking advantage of the best each one had to offer made it possible to build an innovative school, open to the community, which is now a reference in teaching and research in Nursing.
