About the university
The Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceo (in Catalan: Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu) in Barcelona is one of the most important and prestigious music schools in Spain. It was created in 1837 under the name of Philosophical lycee of Montesion. In 1847, the institution inaugurated the Gran Teatro del Liceo. In 1854, the conservatory and the theater were separated administratively, but throughout its existence until now, a permanent interrelation between the two institutions has been maintained. The new headquarters of the Conservatory, located in the street Nou de la Rambla, 86, was designed by architect Dani Freixes and has a constructed area of 9,200 m². It was inaugurated on November 3, 2009 with a concert presided over by Queen Sofia of Spain. In his classrooms were formed, among others, Francesc Viñas, Francisco Casanovas, Miguel Fleta, Frederic Mompou, Victoria de los Angeles, Montserrat Caballé, Maria Uriz, Josep Carreras and Conchita Supervía.
