The sustainability of the natural environment and the need to ensure the supply of energy, demands using less fossil fuels, using them in a more intelligent manner and developing alternatives. This Doctoral Programme was created with a profound interdisciplinary spirit. It originated from the collaboration between fourteen departments of this University. One of its core objectives is its integration in the rest of the departments or institutions that are involved in the field of renewable energy in Galicia. The general objectives of this doctorate are to train professional specialising in the field of renewable energy and sustainability to cover society's needs in this area. The doctors will be able to develop professionally in the field of business and academia. At the same time, it aims to cover the need for scientists with expertise in renewable energy and sustainability who can carry out research in the area of energy efficiency and of the different renewable energies. This multidisciplinary preparation focuses particularly on subjects such as solar energy, biomass, agro-energy and wind and tidal power, among others. A comprehensive project would be created that would include the technical design of the facilities through the realistic modelling of processes, the evaluation of payback time, the study of energy efficiency and viability, sustainability and energy, in the latter case, the construction of an energy system and its subsequent quality control and monitoring.
